Abstract
Değerler eğitimi, öğrencilere etik ve insani değerleri öğreterek, onların karakter gelişimini ve toplumsal yaşama bilincini destekleyen bir eğitim anlayışıdır. Değerler eğitimi, öğrencilerin etik değerleri benimsemelerine, empati ve hoşgörü becerilerini geliştirmelerine, sorun çözme ve karar verme yeteneklerini kazanmalarına ve toplumsal uyum içinde yaşamalarına katkı sağlar. Değerler eğitiminde en önemli unsurlardan bir ders kitaplarında yer alan okuma metinleridir. Bu nedenle, araştırmanın amacı 5. sınıf İngilizce ders kitabında bulunan okuma parçalarının değerler iletimi açısından incelemektir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan doküman analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi için betimsel analiz yönteminden yararlanılmıştır. Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı tarafından 2018 yılında öğretim programlarında öğrencilere kazandırılması hedeflenen adalet, dostluk, dürüstlük, öz denetim, sabır, saygı, sevgi, sorumluluk, vatanseverlik, yardımseverlik değerleri ile ilgili 5. Sınıf İngilizce kitabının metinlerinde yer alan ifadeler belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda, İletimi beklenen değerlerin, çoğunlukla konuların içerisinde karşılıklı diyaloglar şeklinde kazandırılmasının amaçlanmış olabileceği, değerler eğitimi ile ilgili görsel materyaller ve diyalog metinlerinin konu içeriğine uygun şekilde yerleştirildiği görülmüştür. Kitapta yer alan 10 ünitenin her birini tek tek incelediğimizde bazı değerlerin bazı ünitelerde öne çıkarken bazılarının yer almadığı ve 5. Sınıf İngilizce ders kitabının tüm ünitelerinde en az bir değere yer verildiği görülmüştür. Bir bütün olarak bakıldığında sevgi ve sorumluluk değerlerine neredeyse her ünitede yer verilirken adalet ve sabır değerine hiçbir ünitede yer verilmediği görülmüştür.

Abstract
Values education is an educational approach that supports students' character development and social consciousness by teaching ethical and human values. Values education contributes to students' adoption of ethical values, development of empathy and tolerance skills, acquisition of problem-solving and decision-making abilities, and living in social harmony. One of the most important elements in values education is the reading texts included in textbooks. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine the reading passages in the 5th grade English textbook in terms of value transmission. The document analysis technique, a qualitative research method, was used in this study. Descriptive analysis was utilized for data analysis. Expressions related to the values of justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, and helpfulness, which were targeted to be instilled in students according to the 2018 curriculum by the Ministry of National Education, were identified in the texts of the 5th grade English book. The research results showed that the values expected to be transmitted were mostly aimed to be instilled through mutual dialogues within the topics, and visual materials and dialogue texts related to values education were appropriately placed within the content of the subjects. When examining each of the 10 units in the book individually, it was observed that some values stood out in some units while others were absent, and at least one value was included in all units of the 5th grade English textbook. When looking at the book as a whole, it was seen that the values of love and responsibility were included in almost every unit, while the values of justice and patience were not included in any unit.
